My camera collection. #2: Yashica Electro 35.

Maker: Yashica
Model: Electro 35 GS
Year: 1970
Film type: 35mm
Usability: currently broken, but fixable
My cost: $30

The Electro 35 is a rangefinder camera, meaning the viewfinder displays two images superimposed over each and when they line up perfectly, your image is in focus. The setup allows for the camera to be quicker and quieter than an SLR and therefore more discreet, perfect for street photography. I picked this one up from somebody on Craigslist, and just haven't spent the money to get it fixed. That said, it's an attractive and clean camera with a great feel. I hope to use it someday.

I used a rangefinder for years. It was nice.
